Safety is our top priority here at ProFi! For Florida property managers, hurricane season is an exceptionally stressful time. While we can prepare for an advancing storm to the best of our abilities by boarding windows, moving exterior equipment inside, and stocking up on supplies, we cannot predict the impact it will have on our facilities. We must anticipate minor damage, at the very least, and have a response plan in place. Fortunately, ProFi Construction & Maintenance is here to assist in the aftermath of a major hurricane. We provide some steps to take once the storm has cleared and it is safe to leave your residence.

Understandably, facility managers are eager to assess damages after a hurricane. They are often the first ones back at the property, and therefore, at the highest risk of danger. It is imperative to be on the lookout for downed powerlines or trees and to stay clear of puddles that may be hiding debris. In the event of flood damage to your building, do not enter before first disconnecting all electrical power. A wet environment can increase the hazards of electrical shock. In the event of a power outage, make sure you’re operating your generator outside.

Once you’ve taken the necessary safety precautions, you must then document all damages. You should have reviewed your insurance policy prior to the storm and have an idea of what is covered. Take extensive notes and photograph all damage, no matter how small! Do not begin cleaning or making repairs to your property prior to this step, as it could save you substantial money in the long-run.

After you’ve thoroughly assessed and documented damages, you may then begin to make necessary repairs. Your facility maintenance company will assist in this process. ProFi Construction & Maintenance will remove window boards and sandbags, move equipment back outside, and clear your property of all debris. Our goal is to have you return to normal operations as swiftly as possible. In the event your property suffered any structural damage, we can assist in these repairs as well.

Communication is key throughout all phases of a hurricane. In fact, it is your best interest to over-communicate with your tenants and employees to ease uncertainty, as well as ensure their safety. Everyone should be informed of damages and kept updated on expected timelines for return. While we can’t predict the effects of a natural disaster, we can certainly prepare for them and that includes having a smart response in place. Remember, ProFi is here for you every step of the way. Contact us for all hurricane-related facility maintenance needs!

Any Floridian knows that the start of summer means barbecues, beach trips, and, unfortunately, hurricane season. All residents can relate to hurricane preparedness measures such as boarding up homes and stocking up on food and water supplies. For commercial property managers, it’s vital to have a solid plan in place as we will inevitably experience a major storm at some point this season. Therefore, taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of tenants is of utmost importance. At ProFi Construction & Maintenance, we provide our clients with complete facility maintenance services for all commercial properties. We explain how tenants can safely prepare their property for natural disasters and why hurricane season preparation is so crucial.

Create an Emergency Plan and Protocol

It is imperative to take proactive measures in the event of a hurricane hitting your city. Luckily, we will most likely be warned of an approaching storm, which gives us a few days to prepare. If a hurricane watch comes into effect where your commercial property is located, it’s time to put the emergency plan that you put together beforehand into action. This plan should include a possible facility shut down for the safety of all employees. An evacuation may occur and it’s important to close all operations at least one day in advance. Take this time to prepare your facility for a complete shutdown and allow your employees to prepare their homes.

Prepare your Facility

Exterior equipment or signs should be moved inside, and all windows should be boarded if they are not high-impact. Move interior furniture and equipment away from windows. If your commercial facility is safe enough for employees to seek shelter during the storm, you must stock up on emergency supplies. To name a few, this should include plenty of non-perishable food, water, emergency lighting, batteries, medications, and first aid kits. When creating your emergency plan, consider purchasing a generator for your building. Losing power during a hurricane is a strong possibility and a generator will certainly ease the discomfort during this time.

Review your Property Insurance Policy

As a commercial property manager or business owner, it’s necessary to review the current insurance plan for your building. When a natural disaster causes extreme damage, the rebuilding phase can get complicated, especially if the insurance policy is not fully understood prior. After a storm, it’s crucial that the building managers take photos and videos of the damage that occurred to substantiate insurance claims.

Once the storm has officially passed and authorities say it’s safe to leave the home, personnel should assess the building before returning to normal business operations. For more information on how to prepare your commercial facility in the event of a natural disaster, contact the experts at ProFi Construction & Maintenance today!

Maintaining a safe environment in the workplace is extremely important no matter the industry. There are certain standards and regulations companies and workers must meet in order to promote productivity and safety in the space they are in. There are serious consequences that can occur when this is not made a priority. Workers can become injured, equipment can become damaged, and efficiency will be lost.

The facility maintenance industry includes handyman and repair work, porter services, and general contracting to name a few. Workers are responsible for properly handling the equipment on a daily basis. Without regular safety training, mistakes can occur and dangerous outcomes can unfortunately take place. Here at ProFi Construction & Maintenance, we take safety procedures and consistent training very seriously. We explain how to regularly preserve a safe environment in the workplace when it comes to facility maintenance.

Cleanliness is Key

As a facility maintenance company, we are constantly working in large warehouses and commercial properties. Power tools and other machinery are always present. No matter the project at hand, it’s important to maintain a clean space. Commercial renovations can get messy very quickly. Taking the time to clean a workspace will ensure that no one will slip on materials and get injured.

The Importance of Training

Hands-on training is required in the facility maintenance field. Workers need to learn how to safely handle the equipment and heavy machinery when it comes to power sweeping or general contracting jobs. Industry safety standards continue to evolve and that’s why regular training sessions are crucial. The construction industry alone comes with the potential for fatal injuries on site. Without the proper training for each job, the risk for a dangerous outcome increases.

ProFi Construction & Maintenance is proud to keep safety and training at the forefront in all projects we complete. We provide hands-on monthly training at our facility as well as quarterly safety and vehicle seminars. Our employees have the confidence to successfully work on a job without harming themselves or the people around them.
